Summary by Bryan Blair
The author feels as if he and the
rest of the scholarly world have
made little progress in understanding
the Romantic period, or even understanding
the texts from the period. He states
they may have acquired a great deal
of knowledge about that period, but
that doesn't mean they have the capacity
to understand it all. He has spent
over thirty years studying the Romantic
Christ. He has extensively read
poetry, theology, philosophy, history
and political literature. He states
that it is necessary to pay close
attention to chronology when studying
any time of or part of history, put
very pointless and impractical in
his study of Christ. It was "boring
and repetitive. All investigations
in the area of Romanticism are always
if not inaccurate, at least partial."
A constant look at the history and
ideology of the literary texts is
the only way anyone will even begin
to try to grasp an understanding
of Romanticism.
