Dret Lore - Introduction
Two scientists, part of a large research
expedition, washed ashore on a remote
mid-pacific island after a tropical
storm had breached the hull of their
vessel. As Dr. Joseph Saterdan,
Anthropologist and Dr. Marissa Rubins,
Archeologist combed the deserted
island, they suddenly discovered
a huge wooden chest in a grassy
cleft between two palms. Although
badly damaged from exposure, the
wood panels of the chest still bore
traces of deep and elaborate carvings.
The corroded but ornately-worked
hard metal fittings suggested a very
advanced culture, but neither scholar
was able to identify the origins
of the motifs represented in either
the unusual carvings or in the metalwork.
Carefully working the lid open, they
discovered a collection of several
bottles made of beautifully sculpted
glass of different colors. Each
of the sealed bottles contained several
parchment scrolls. Drawing upon
their own expertise and the skills
of their respective disciplines,
they were finally able to decipher
the texts. The following is an account
of their examination of these remarkable
materials.
