Colleagues:
As members of PERFORM OR MRDS, you might be interested in the production of
_Romeo and Juliet_ I'm directing at Huntington College (Huntington,
Indiana), November 7-9. Set in post-Civil War America, in Verona, a city in
northern Virginia, the production attempts to connect the beauty, violence,
sentimentality, and devastation of Shakespeare's play with both the post-war
period and the present day. Despite the recontextualization, I believe the
production is guided by Shakespearean performance values. Musical elements
of the play will all be taken from Stephen Foster.
I could say much more, and I might when I have more time. Those in the area
might want to have a look and listen. I would like to reserve some seats
(free) for PERFORM or MRDS folks. E-mail me. Thanks.
