The manuscript was included in the bibliographies of the Debat des Deux Fortunés d'Amours, the Belle Dame sans Mercy and the Breviaire des Nobles. Ph was also mentioned by Champion, and was consulted by J. E. White when he edited the poetical works. The large collection of works in Ph includes the four poems which were edited. When the textual tradition of each was examined, Ph was found to be of quite good, though not outstanding, quality; it was always among the best texts of its group. Ph contains a certain number of readings peculiar to itself and some irregular lines. Most of the texts in Ph are incomplete. As these criticisms indicate, Ph was not an automatic choice for use in this edition. It was chosen in order to represent a tradition which is of some quality and which would otherwise have been excluded. Ph is written in a small and flowing hand which has a cursive appearance and is generally legible; s and f are easily confused, as are ir and er. The few corrections made by the scribe can usually be distinguished from a second and later series, which was made almost certainly with the help of an early collected edition. The sign Ph is used for these corrections. -- End --
