There is the following inscription on fol. 1r: 'Ce present livre appartient A me Jaques Thiboust Notaire et secretaire du roy Esleu en Berry et sr de Quantilly . . . '; a similar inscription is on fol. 282v. Pb has been extensively corrected, especially the texts of items 1, 21, and 22; the titles of many works have been either added or expanded. Paulin Paris suggested that these corrections and additions might be in the hand of Alain Chartier himself. The corrections were later examined by Arthur Piaget, who showed that they were the work of Jacques Thiboust; the titles, in particular, had been taken from an early collected edition. 1. Fol. 282v, (Explicit le curial de me Alain chartier en son vivant notere et secretere du roy Charles vij me de ce nom). Fol. 282 has been inserted and is entirely in the hand of Jacques Thiboust. The imitations of the Belle Dame sans Mercy in Pb were discussed by Piaget. Pb was included in the bibliographies of the Debat des Deux Fortunés d'Amours, the Belle Dame sans Mercy and the Breviaire des Nobles. Pb, which was used in the edition of each of the four poems, was found to be linked to Ff, so far as the Lay de Paix is concerned. Elsewhere it closely resembles Qh and Qk; the three manuscripts are laid out in similar fashion and were probably copied in the same scriptorium. They contain a large number of readings peculiar to themselves and not a few irregular lines. Many of the works which they contain are incomplete. -- End --
